2016 Landis M Stetler Leadership Scholarship

The Florida Council of Administrators of Special Education (CASE), a Division of Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) has established a scholarship program to award financial scholarships in the name of Dr. Landis Stetler, a pioneer and great leader in exceptional student education (ESE) in the state of Florida and the nation. The award will be made annually at the Florida CEC conference. Beginning with the 2012 scholarship award, recipients may apply to continue the scholarship in subsequent years while completing their degree program.

Criteria:

The successful applicant must meet all of the following criteria, as determined by the selection committee:

  1. Be a Florida resident and currently enrolled in a graduate program leading to certification in ESE and or major in exceptional student education. (A focus on administration of exceptional student education will be given special consideration)
  2. Sign an affidavit that the applicant intends to teach or work in a school district in ESE in the state of Florida.
  3. Provide two letters of recommendation, one being from the university or college major professor.
    Note: Letters of recommendations must have electronic signatures or submitted as a pdf or similar file with original signatures
  4. Complete the application online. A major part of the application is the narative including the reason the applicant believes he/she would assisted be the scholartship.

Procedures for application:

Applications are available online at the Florida Council for Exceptional Children’s web page (www.floridacec.org) and the Florida CASE website (www.flocase.org). Applications are submitted online along with the two letters of recommendation. Deadline for submission is no later than close of business September 5, 2015. No applications will be considered after that date.

Procedures for review and selection:

A committee of CASE members will be appointed by the President of Florida CASE representing the district ESE administrators in the state. The Florida CASE member at large will serve as a liaison in the selection process. Applications will be reviewed and scored by the committee either in person, via mail, or electronically, and the score sheets will be sent to the designated liaison.

The scholarship will be awarded as part of the annual Florida CEC conference. It is hoped that the recipient can attend the state Florida CEC conference in October to be presented with the award in person.

Amount of award

The number and amounts of the scholarship awards are determined by Florida CASE, and can be adjusted at the discretion of the FLCASE Board on an annual basis.

Note: For 2015 it has been determined that one (1) scholarship in the amount of $3000.00 for a graduate student in exceptional education.
